OCW Signs Third Generation Wrestler!

It’s been confirmed that OCW has signed Alex Fischer, the grandson of Hermann Fischer and son of Hans Fischer. Alex, who has been bouncing around from small company to small company in recent months, broke the news on Twitter this evening.

With both his father and grandfather being well renowned for their work as heels, it comes to a surprise to know that Alex will most likely be portraying a babyface if his recent history carries over into OCW. This tweet – posted during Alex’s debut promo in APW – sums up his gimmick well.

With a notable lack of babyfaces on the Turmoil roster, Alex will be a welcome addition to the brand. His position on the totem pole remains to be seen, however, as he has only been wrestling for around a year prior to his signing. If he’s to swim rather than sink, he’s going to need to inherit the traits that made his predecessors so successful: psychology and charisma.

 

Hermann had some of the best in-ring psychology out of Golden Era performers. Each move had a purpose, be it to damage a body part or to wear down an opponent. Hans, while not as skilled in the ring as his father, made up for it in charisma, being able to trade insults with the best in the business. His work as a coward further showcased how effective the gimmick can be, and it’s been frequently used for modern day heels as an easy way to generate heat.

 

A shadow looms over Alex Fischer due to the success of those before him. Playing a babyface is a step in the right direction to set him apart from his father. Family can get you started in the business, but if one can’t stand on their own two feet, then they will eventually be lost in the shuffle as a sort of failed experiment. Alex could use the psychology and the charisma, but that should be all he carries from his father and grandfather. He will need to be his own man; otherwise he will forever be trapped in the midcard, unable to truly succeed.

 

We can only hope that Alex hasn’t joined the big leagues too quickly and is ready for the trying times ahead. If his twitter is any indication, he is at least confident, which is a great start. Time will tell if it will mean anything.
