ILLUMINATI’S TEA, CRUMPETS, AND RIOT REVIEW

 

Hello OCW its been a while and not only am I back but so is my brilliant show analysis. “But Illuminati how can you effectively review this Riot when you have only just recently returned?” You may foolishly ask yourselves; to which I will reply, silly OCW

ILLUMINATI IS ALWAYS WATCHING!

Before we begin I will inform you that tonight’s tea is Early Grey with a drop of honey, my personal favorite and perfect for this night time review of RIOT.

 

CODE STORM and The Peanut Gallery Opening Segment

 

Code has always been one of the guys on the roster I thought had the best chance to be a top guy, but had the worst luck/least opportunity to show off his skills. When this angle started with the introduction of The Blacklist, Johnny D and Wheeler, I was a little iffy, sharing the opinions voiced by the illustrious cast of The Desk. However, as the angle with Tobane started to develop and Code and Blacklist started taking more risks with their content I was on board; and this promo right here is a perfect example of why.

 

Code is trying to be OCW’s Alpha Scumbag and my mantra with characters has always been PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT. If you’re gunna be crazy don’t go 6 or 8 out of 10 but push it to 30. Code did just that, when he wanted to me to see him as dickbag sohe burst into Tobane’s lockeroom with Wheeler and D. in blackface behind him to taunt Tobane AND alienate his former best friend BUFFNESS.

 

Justin Raze Promo NUMBAH WAN

 

While content is always appreciated I feel like this promo, as with many of Raze’s doesn’t have anything behind it. Much like wrestling everything you do should have a purpose, especially in this stage of your OCW career, whether it be adding depth to your character, introducing a new aspect to your character, or even highlighting an aspect of your character. This promo merely reinforces the fact that General Raze exists, and he has a match at Lution 9.

 

Madeline Osiris vs Minami

 

Solid match as has come to be the norm for the Bombshells, the theatrics at the end were wonderful really pilling onto the growing insanity that has become the OMG Wars. I was hoping for Green Man to win… but what’s this A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS WHO COULD IT BE?! (It was me)

IN YO CRIB, DRAGO Part 1

 

I think this set of promo’s is a perfect example of taking an aspect of your character and pushing it to 30. While Drago started off as a seemingly 2D Whacky Hunter Character his pushing of the envelope has allowed him to add more depth to his character. The perfect example here is the reveal that Drago is an inventor, while this reinforces Drago’s zaniness it adds a new Macgyver-esque dimension to his character that he can now add to his character moving forward that creates a logical progression.

 

K.D. Littering on the Roof

 

KD looks to trying to shake up his character, literally throwing away what he is now and trying to accept DJESUS back into his life. Interested to see where this goes because KD has always been one of my favorite characters in OCW.

 

DAS RAYCIS vs DA GENERAL

 

I like Raze’s look, it reminds me of Gunner from TNA which I believe is the type of character he’s going for which is always good. Everything looks pretty perfect and I enjoy YS’s move set with all the taunts, reminds me of Djesus. On the subject of taunting, I would have liked to see Raze taunt a little more, it really makes the match feel a little more fluid but thats just personal preference. Otherwise this was a spot on match.

 

Jacob Trance Taunting the General

 

This is a solid promo by Trance that helped to further the feud between himself and Raze. While it is a very good promo my only issue is that the “action” section seemed a bit to wordy. However my big issue is that this promo feels like it belongs in the middle of the feud and not on the lead up to Lution, the expected blow off, however, I do acknowledge that this feud could extend past Lution, in which case I’m excited to see how it continues, but a solid showing.

 

Jack Marrow vs DAT GUY

 

I like Jookie’s new attire, and I’m glad to see the dreads back, I know I have the old one’s hanging around somewhere. The match was really good, my only “complaint” is that I think Jookie needs an update on his theme, even just a remix or a cover of his current one would be enough, but once again thats just my personal preference.

 

IN YO CRIB, DRAGO Part 2: Electric Bugaloo

 

More of the same from part 1 except we get a reveal on Drago’s military background. This not only explains his skill as a crazy hunter, but adds a new dimension to his character that he can explore down the line, pretty slick stuff.

Raze Promo Part 2: Electric Bugaloo

 

Coming after the Trance promo this was pretty jarring as it came across as more of a comedy bit than a fired up Raze trying to figure out a solution. I feel like Raze had the perfect opportunity to solidify himself as a super face here standing alone against the EVIL THAT IS JACOB TRANCE but instead calls “someone” on the phone for help resulting in a weird back and forth in which Raze is comedically left hanging. Granted maybe I’m not seeing the bigger picture but I feel like this was a missed opportunity.

 

Jobby and Rooks Rike DAS RAYCIS promo

 

I’m loving that Jobby has finally embraced his inner scumbag, I can see Jobby “The Scumbag” Minio being pretty solid as a character if he keeps up this pace. Not only that but I’m sure Winnie the Pugh and Mugen are forcing Jobby to keep on improving so that he can keep up and hopefully make a run at surpassing them.

 

Jobby vs Cobra

 

I like both these guys looks, Cobra looks like one of those nifty indy guys trying to prove himself and Jobby looks like he’s embraced his inner scumbag. This match was solid, reversals were even, and back and forth was great, also liked the liberal usage of submissions.

 

IN YO CRIB, DRAGO Part FINAL

 

This was a nice goofy finish to a goofy segment highlighting in the end Drago is a good guy, I loved this In Yo Crib and thought Drago took full advantage of it to further develop his character.

 

BOMBSHELL Shenanigans

 

This was a nice bit that really highlighted how much Anna Mosity and Lindsay are polar opposites. The Bombshell’s have really grown from the just for fun “division” that we started last year and its really cool to see that they’re featured so prominently now.

 

AWWW SNAP DRAGO vs COBRA AT LUTION

 

For an on the fly match this little blurb did a perfect job of setting up the match on short notice. Hopefully this kicks off a fun and crazy feud.

 

BUFFNESS vs The Son of Gimmick Infringement CODE Storm

 

I’m a big fan of both of these guys, and I was really excited to see the two of them duke it out in the Main Event. Solid Match, and Tobane being ringside really added to the match with the finish really getting me hyped for the two of them going at it at Lution.

At the risk of repeating myself I’m a huge fan of both of these guys and seeing them begrudgingly work together has been a lot of fun. However, be wary of OUR HERO, I’m excited to see what he has up his sleeve. I mean last time he had a surprise like this he made me, the sick twisted Illuminati, Co-GM of Riot. Whatever it is it should be amazing.

-Why is everyone going for the announce table spots right off the bat? Gimme a little foreplay, build up to it.
