Michael Morrison Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I think it's a good idea to just let yourselves dive into topics outside of the shows or PPV's. It's okay to start the discussion off with shows/PPV's, to get the ball rolling, but there were a few times on The Desk where you guys would start to rant about a wrestler, or an incident, and immediately buzzkill it with, "back on topic" or, "back to the show". Having said that, I'm looking forward to a more fluid Desk. Don't get me wrong, I get a kick out of it either way, because I enjoy discussion and different points of view, but even I could tell that you guys are frustrated with the current flow of the show. 2
Bobby Minio Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Well, reviewing the show on topic brings up those topics that they expand on. The issue is that everything has to be debated and it's not always with a point. Sometimes it's just debating simply because one of them tends to disagree with the other. There is an alarming amount of things that are debated on a nearly hostile level when in all actuality, all three of the hosts pretty much agree about it on some level. Like, they feel the need to argue with Dan because Dan is a dick and they have this concept that SOMEONE has to argue with Dan, or Dan will jump in to argue simply to fuck with them, and they Dolph Ziggler sell the shit. A lot of devils advocate positions turn into borderline shouting matches and if you really aren't personally convicted to an argument or point there is no reason to waste that time or energy on that point. Save it up for the shit you do care about. 1 http://ocwfed.tv/recapppv/Awards%202k18/UpdateOTY18.png
Matsuda Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I know it's a pain to do but I think the process of discussing the show has been very beneficial to the rookie class and is at least a consistent way of giving yourself direction. You can go all out on a show and that show may not get discussed in depth aside from some shots at Cody, but having you guys talk about people's work is a great gauge to get an idea of what does and doesn't work. 2
Bobby Minio Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I know it's a pain to do but I think the process of discussing the show has been very beneficial to the rookie class and is at least a consistent way of giving yourself direction. I don't know if anyone has noticed as I tend to defend my position a lot of the time but I have taken a lot of feedback directly from the desk. In my look, my physical build, my moveset, my in-ring style, my writing, my promos... Hell, a lot of my promos are me shooting on comments on the desk, as I treat some of the info from the desk in character as fan feedback for feedback from fan podcasts. I even changed my look up again this weekend as I was getting sick of three out of touch bozos bitching and moaning that a guy in his early thirties has bangs in 2014. For fuck sake. As Brennan mentioned, the desk is huge for the rookies. It lets you know what you are doing right or wrong, and you can use it to learn from the mistakes of others and improve your overall product. I also think, whether people admit it or not, it's a huge motivator. It motivates you to do the right thing and get on shows with content so you don't get beat up on the desk. It motivates you to do things that get the guys on the desk to pop, and it motivates rookies to want to get noticed. In real wrestling you have a crowd to give you feedback, in OCW we have the desk. You might be finding the desk stale because you guys bicker constantly like fucking Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau. Basically, despite the fact that you guys are largely on the same page, you sound sick of each other's voices, and as a result it's starting to make me sick of it too. Maybe you need a personnel change, or maybe you need to focus on the guest hosts or guest stars again more, but you guys are so weary with each other and truthfully it's really starting to rub off on me as a listener. Content like the desk is what sets OCW apart from the other efeds on the net. It's a high quality feature that offers crucial feedback and adds a major level of depth to a hobby that, often times, can feel inactive, quiet or light. Despite the fact that our website is non-existent and out of date and probably makes a lot of newcomers think the fed is inactive, we have features like this that come out weekly and offer something that a lot of feds don't, so I'm a huge fan of content like podcasts that focus on the fed and I really believe it could be crucial to the growth of OCW if anyone is really interested in that at this point. I truly think if you take the time to look at the last four or so months, you'll see that the recaps do a lot of good for the OCW, certainly more good than bad. PS: I wrote this fucking post three times now because I kept fat fingering the reply on my dumbass browser and losing it. At one point I insulted you more. Thank my clumsy sausage fingers you fucks. http://ocwfed.tv/recapppv/Awards%202k18/UpdateOTY18.png
