Aries Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Personally, I feel the face/heel dynamic in professional wrestling is a tired, old formula. I think blurring the lines between competitors, letting the crowd get behind who they think the better competitor is, is so much better. I realize Lucha Underground is mostly rehearsed, and the crowd reactions are pretty fake, but the idea that no man is full-on face or full-on heel is what makes me drawn to it. I mean, unless there's a moment that makes someone irredeemable, of course. I think that's partly why Sean is so over. PARTLY. On top of being a good competitor, the Jurassic Shovel stole his shining moment, putting Parker into an irredeemable situation. To me, there is NO reason to root for this man right now. 5

If you're a face, use the crowd as a device to cheer and emphasise that, you're a heel, then use boos. The problem starts because some people transcend "kayfabe" because of either how they are as a handler, or how they've been in the past with their character. For example, Smythe could spend the rest of his life shaking hands and kissing babies, writing himself as a face, but he'll always be a heel - not because his character is a heel in the present, but because of how he is on the boards/how he's been character wise in the past. One of my favorite parts of it yeah, never been a fan of pure face/heel, its gotta be about your characters baby I want everyone to know that Jookie Marley might just be the dumbest person I have ever met.

Why is the crowd cheering for heels?
