Nick Kage Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Well I can admit when I am wrong. I'll say it. I WAS WRONG. Here comes a plate of crow I am about to eat. SVR 08 was a bad step for OCW. After having a few months to play it, to win and lose in it. (stupid GUY!) I will say this game has done one thing for OCW and that is reward mediocre players. I'm gonna straight shoot here 06 and 07 took skill, we had a definate level of Main eventers, Mid-Carders, and Jobbers. 08 has shit all over this and players can win even if they suck. When you got yourself into the Main Event it was cuz you earned it. You had the skill and RP chops to hang. Take Myself, when I started I could beat the low level guys I was soild at midcard and I would get beat by Main eventers. It wasn't until I could pull out a win or actaully be a threat with he main eventers in a game where my skill was needed to increase that I became a main eventer. I earned it. 08 has taken that away. 08 was made so the lame can pick it up and play it. What that has done is it has taken some people and made them players when their skill suggests otherwise. How? lets see, if I can play 08 and have a shitty match but still win againts someone who is trying their ass off we have a problem. If I can close my eyes and hit the reverse button and actually reverse 50% of the time we have a problem. I wanted 08 to even the playing field and it has but it did it the wrong way. I wanted a new game with some changes in gameplay to allow for some new guys to maybe adapt or learn the game and move up to M.E. or what not. I did not want 08 to be made so that anyone with or without skill can win. Now there are a few things I like about 08, I like the styles and perks (even though they implimented them wrong) I like that you can have some intresting match ups but in the end it comes down to the players. 08 allows you to defult to a quick and whip whore if you want. (quick grapple irish whip whore) we are all at fault for this and it sucks. Can FPR put a limit on quick grapples and irish whips? Sure but how do we police that? Does it really need to come to that? If so we have a problem, and this is a exmaple of trying to make 08 like 07 with rules we have to enforce. How is it I can do no strong grapples againts someone who is doing them and I can still win? From a game developer this game mechanic = broken. How is it people will choose finshers that dont even fit them or they never used in previous games yet in 08 they pick them cuz they are basically irrevirsable? Hell I went to the fucking POUNCE!!! It's one of the hardest moves to set up! I didn't choose a flying elbow.. (zing!) I made my way to main event in the series of games that took skill. Why? Cuz I had to sharpen my skills up not cuz the game made it easier for me. I felt proud when I beat a Super Heavy Sideshow the Klown for the OCW title cuz I was better then him and I worked my ass of to get better. Not cuz the game was made so I could hardly try and still pull of a win! Or that the game was made so that it helped me win. That is bad for OCW and its bad for our competitve side. If your skill is not up to par, when you step in the ring with RD MONEY you will get beat. You shouldn't look like you can win. If your skill was good and you got in the ring with RD then it would show and you would get noticed but this wont happen in 08. In 08 I have many more wins then loses so its not that I am scared of losing or I suck at the game the problem is the game is making OCW suck. 3 years of my life has gone into OCW I wont allow for it to fall to shit cuz of a game. OCW is about fair play, community, and competitve matches. We have lost alot of these things and it gives me a sad face. (I'll leave the text faces to heaton) Basically as FPR police I'm being forced into making rules that basically do its best to turn 08 into 07? This is crazy we should just use 07 then! I honeslty don't know what to do. In a few months we have TNA and SVR 09 coming out. If we go with TNA fpr will be re-written to an extent to adjust for a new game. If we go to SVR 09 we will run into the same issues we have in 08. Jaysin said after lution we are having an open summit to address this problem and everyone will have a chance to talk. You as memebers of OCW need to really think about whats best for OCW and not for only you. take this time to think about OCW and whats best for it. At the summit we will all have a chance to talk. Until then this goes for everyone myself included. HAVE SOME FUCKING ETHICS PLEASE! "When you're pushed... Adrian Bold Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 You know another thing all these "Shitty players" play dark matches regularly. I myself, smythe, brad bauer, cross, and mace play all the damn time. If your refering to me I don't know if you remember but I beat AJ phoenix and Barbarian beat Versus in 07. You maineventers need to practice more. I play it all the damn time and so does Nate you can tell. This game DOES take skill. Just because the main-eventers can't hang with some of the younger guys just because we play it more than you doesn't mean that the game is broken. http://i.imgur.com/zP10f.gif
Nate Ortiz Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I don't play this game all the time, I play show matches thats about it. If i'm on its usually to edit a caw or record rp stuff. This issue isn't a skill issue it is an ethical issue. May 29 2005 - Present Took Dupree's Summer
Versus Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I remember playing Barb. He sat in the corner waiting for me to come to him. I remember he did the same thing against Soul Glo (a cruiser) too. So yeah, we need to discuss ethics, but we also need for people to realize which character they created, and play that way. If you want to be early, fearful Guy Fausto, and hide in the corner for the match only doing things when someone gets close enough, change your character to fit that. If you want to play as Lesnar and Goldbergs love child, play that way. I'm sayin, I'm not gonna give you an orange, and when you bite into it, it's an apple. I'd expect the same respect from people. But this is one of dozens of issues that needs to be discussed post lution. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d103/JDVS/footprints_1.jpg
Josiah Cross Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I don't recall sitting back and waiting for you Versus...I owned you bad in 07. I dont know what sparked this and im not sure who you are trying to label as "crappy" players but we have a mid card and we have a main event. People like Valmont (no offense) arent winning and I feel the midcard has had some awesome matches. Everyone in the midcard can win, yeah say its the game, but people like I, Bold, Leon, Smythe, Double A, Brad Bauer, Trips, MMM, Deano, we all know we can win 07 or 08. Every one of the midcard people have SKILL and Experience. I also see these guys playing more Dark Matches then the Main Eventers. I don't think it's the game thats leveled the playing field, I think its been the midcard stepping up, putting on great matches and feuds, and knowing that we've all done our time in OCW and we all want a crack at the Main Event. That right there brings about competition. THE DEAN http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i41/bombsquad07/barb.jpg
AJ Phoenix Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 You know another thing all these "Shitty players" play dark matches regularly. Just because the main-eventers can't hang with some of the younger guys just because we play it more than you doesn't mean that the game is broken. Sure you did beat me, but if i remember correctly, i couldve just pinned you after I made you DR with the buzzsaw kick, but you were all "NOEZ YOU CANT PIN RIGHT WHEN MAKIN SOMEONE DR!1!", even though you could, so I just gave you a break lol. Sure you won and congrats but yeah. BTW I agree with Kage, looking back 07 wasn;t the best game but it did at least take skill. Sure, I like CAW in 08 I'll admit, but from a gameplay standpoint, 07 wins. When I defeated guys in 07, i felt like I actually did something. On this game, not so much. http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/976/senseisz8.jpg
Brad Bauer Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I have to disagree w/ this Article. I have maintained the same status from 07-08. I can beat everybody that I'm supposed to beat, but lose the matches that I should in fact lose. There is some cheapness that occurs during matches, but honestly, this article is really not warranted Kage. Do I think Fausto played like a cheesy fuck in your match? Yes. He is intelligent and has done the same thing this year that he did last year, he's got a moveset that doesn't fit his caw, but is effective in the ring. Nate has the same thing going on, but Nate's moveset fits his caw and makes better sense. Nothing personal against Fausto, but I think this article was directed towards him and Cross. Again, some points are valid, but I have to disagree w/ you posting this sort of article. I didn't particularly care for all of Majin's tactics in my R2G match w/ him, but he didn't break FPR and he's evolved a style. I don't have to like his style to appreciate the fact that he can win with it. I guess my point is, I don't really see anything wrong with the way things are going. Cross beats Majin w/ quick grapples. Nothing wrong with that. Strong grapples are so easily reversed, you have to resort to quicks to stay in a match sometimes. Taking the knee strikes out was a great idea. Cross is right, the ME guys never play DM's....us midcard to upper mid card are playing every night to get better. Don't be surprised to see a young Anthony Martin whoop some ass. he's getting premium DM experience from myself, smythe, and others.
Adrian Bold Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 So I can pretty much beat all the main-eventers in 08 and you can't beat me so it has to take some skill doesn't it? http://i.imgur.com/zP10f.gif
Versus Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 You know what, no. It's a lot easier to wrestle, when you sit in one corner and wait for someone else to move, and Barb, you sat back like you were a 6 year old being approached by a pedophile the whole match. If you played like you had a pair, there would have been a different outcome. But I'm not gonna turn this into a flame war, I'll save my opinions for when they matter, the discussion after Lution. This game doesn't take skill. It's all dependent on who has more damaging quick grapples and worse ethics. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d103/JDVS/footprints_1.jpg
Nick Kage Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 you act like i never play DM's? infact i do ask AA yourself Brad and others. the point is that 08 allows for ethics to be broken way to easy. 08 allows for less skill to be affective. that is bad. i want mid carders to excel but they should do it by skill not cuz a game is to easy. and brad your are not the authority in OCW to tell me what is warrented and what isn't in fact it could be argued its the other way around. the intent is to make sure ocw is going in the right direction and currenlty we at ocw have a almost 50-50 slpit on if we are doing that or not. that alone is a warning sign.
