Welcome to "The Ambition Era". When me and the fellahs came to OCW a little over a year ago we "All" talked about changing OCW and leaving our mark. Every one of us contributed to the birth of LOTUS which had the motto of "Adapt or Die". Think that holds true here.

EDIT: This post is not a diss on any of y'all that were here before our class.... A lot of vets have the same ethics and views as our class... Don't get it twisted.

We can't have it both ways... if you want to play in a straight comp league where ya win/lose is prominent then there are places for you (GWA)... but that would render storylines and fueds almost useless...

Now if you wanna try and recreate the drama and stories that we get to see on mondays, thursdays, fridays and saturdays (for the lucky few that see ROH new every week) then this is the place to be. I'm not saying everything has to be storyline driven. But there are some people that are above average to really good writers and may be average on the sticks.

If you want a comp league, then this may not be the place fr you.

I'm not talking about our match... You beat me cause your better than I am... Well at least you were then ;)...

I'm talking about setting the bar between the guys that are good and the guys that aren't... I'm ok with someone looking good in a match... But it isn't your job to make the other guy look good... The other guy has to practice and be good on his own...

Like if I get booked against Omar Gibbs next week... I should legit fuck his shit up... Or else why am I Considered Main Event?

I understand that staged matches have to happen... But don't expect people to watch that shit with interest... I log on to see two guys fight for the Win... That's why style points are so important in OCW... Guys aren't letting you do it... You actually bust someone's ass while throwing in taunts, exessive moves and spots!!!

Guys just drop it. Nothing will ever be as good as it was in 2007, and nobody will ever be as good as the guys who aren't here anymore. Jeez OCW should have just shut down in 2008.

Also if ric flair thought the way smythe does we wouldn't have sting, Ricky steamboat, and many others. Squash randoms in ranked matches.

One of the most simple, and truest lines I've ever read in any thread.

It's what THQ makes us do every year...they change shit up, we need to adapt or die...just some of us are better at adapting than others :)

Matches can be both competitive AND entertaining...it comes down to the ethics of the individuals in the match...look at the Serpent Series...myself and Tibby put on 7 entertaining matches whilst trying to beat the living shit out of each other to get the Win...some spots we pulled off, some failed miserably...but our ethics remained the same.

I agree with you Smythe to an extent... You should fuck my shit up if your skills are on par by all means. But look good doing it.

You have it wrong Suda...

I'm not one of those old-school over new school guys... Or else I wouldn't still be here...

All I'm saying is the guys at the top of the ladder have to look like the guys at the top of the ladder... At the start of 2010 I beat Aries in about 5 minutes... Didn't make him look good or let him hit anything... I kicked his ass... And after that, he literally transcended into the best player OCW has... That competitive nature is what it's about...

If you play a match and it looks like shit... Then it was just a shitty looking match... Guys'll watch and bash you and your next match you make an effort to make it better... If you redo every match two or three times you don't better at staging your style...

I want guys to be good to the point where as soon as matches start you know your style, you know who your up against and it's more a chess match than circus!!!

Okay, so we've got the bottom line. Play how the fuck you want. If you feel better being entertaining, do that, theres plenty of us who will work with you on it. If you wanna kick fuck out of someone, do that, as long as it works for you. We can't all be all things to all people.

Anyway, Spider and Jookie son... exciting times?

No.

Who here doesn't like storyline driven match? Cause right now, I only see you sayin that it doesn't interest you... Don't try and speak for the masses, speak for smythe. If YOU don't get interested in matches like that, don't bother with them. Ad let the people that are interested in them live and enjoy them for what they are.... entertainment.

Both Smythe, and Tibby make valid points. You can't disagree with Smythe even if you're mad at the guy. Tibby is a great champion, but just remember one thing. :)

I'm not gonna type all about the ol' days because for guys like Smythe, Leon, myself, and others we know the competition part of OCW is almost, but gone. For example me against Parker Stevens... I had to fight parker 6 or 7 times, and I kept getting my ass kicked, BUT I kept getting closer each time I faced him. Eventually I had faced him, and won. My point is if any of those matches kept getting staged I would have never gotten better in the game, and would have never beaten him.

Another example? It's the game that makes it harder. Like Parker said, we have to adapt for OCW to survive with the changing of the games. Back in the day when you fought guys like Guy, Nate, VS you didn't have to worry about putting on great matches. More or less you need to worry about not getting your ass jobbed in under 5 min against those guys. It was all about competition then, but the roster then made it work for the better of OCW with great storytelling, and feuds.

9 times out of 10 most matches either was gonna go down to the wire, and still be very competitive. Some still looked like great matches, other like squashes, but my main point is some of us from back in the day don't get our panties in a twist when we lose badly. We come back with a vengeance, and most likely will win the rematch.

People just need to toughen up, and take a 5 min ass kicking like a man. If you lose, you lose... what doesn't kill you only makes your character stronger. You learn from losing just as much as you do winning. I'm not saying go out, and just not care about how your match looks because I'm one of those guys just as much as I love competition I also want great storytelling, and feuds which should carry over into matches. If two wrestlers got a past with each other for example Valmont vs Leon in the OCW title tourney. Leon tried to keep ending it early, and eventually getting me counted out. Why? Because of the past between the two, Valmont wasn't gonna let Leon win, and Leon knew he had to end it early. It told a story, and wasn't competitive that much, but I didn't bitch about it. Either you can handle both, or you just need to focus on one, and the other will come to you eventually.

Now let's end this now... keep talking about Riot.. every week we turn a thread into something non-related to Riot just between a few individuals.
