I'm working this weekend... Tooth Fairy.
-
So modest, this guy. I'm guessing you used some sort of push brush to remove the original date? The lower half of Nate "Triple Sting" Ortiz blends very well with the original colors of the poster. It really looks like he's standing over NY. The belts merging in and out of the clouds was a nice touch as well. The new Clash Logo looks really nice as well.

Alright, its time to reveal my findings so far. Smythe has yet to battle a fellow heavy, but I was able to breakdown his match against Chino (his highest scoring match). In order to make an somewhat even comparison, I needed someone who is also known for his brawling/striking, so I went with RD Money. His match against Seth Irving lasted, roughly, two minutes longer than Smythe's match with Chino, so take that into consideration as well. I suggest, in order to get a more accurate comparison, perhaps Smythe could be booked in a match against Seth Irving. In fact, if Seth is willing to help us out on our experiment, it doesn't necessarily have to be a booked match. If you two could record a dark match, it would work just as well. On with the findings so far. For clarification: Only successful offense was counted. Anything countered by their opponents did not get tallied. Irish Whips and Back Grapples all count as a from of "Quick Grapple". A "Rope Grapple" is a grapple done to an opponent resting on the ropes. A "Rebound Grapple" is a grapple done to an opponent who was Whipped to the ropes and as they bounced off, a grapple was completed. Neither man hit their fin during these matches and neither scored a pin, so that's even going in. OFFENSE---------------------------SMYTHE------GREATNESS Strikes-----------------------------12------------19 Ground Strikes----------------------3-------------8 Quick Grapples----------------------15------------14 Strong Grapples---------------------0-------------9 Ground Grapples---------------------3-------------2 Turnbuckle Grapples-----------------1-------------3 Rebound Grapples-------------------0-------------2 Rope Grapples-----------------------0-------------1 Running Attacks/Grapples------------1-------------5 Diving Attacks-----------------------0-------------2 As you can see, both men use "Striking" and "Quick Grapples" as a big part of their arsenal; practically on the same volume. The major difference lies in RD's range of attacks. He managed to hit some diving attacks from the top rope, rope grapples, rebound grapples and a healthy dose of strong grapples. Not only did he hit moves worth more points, but also mixed up his attacks, which makes it harder to predict just what he'll do next. Lets get into defense. DEFENSE---------------------------SMYTHE------GREATNESS Strikes-----------------------------1-------------5 Ground Strikes----------------------1-------------1 Quick Grapples----------------------1-------------1 Strong Grapples---------------------1-------------0 Ground Grapples---------------------3-------------3 Turnbuckle Grapples-----------------0-------------1 Rebound Grapples-------------------3-------------0 Running Attacks/Grapples------------1-------------2 Mid Grapples-------------------------2-------------2 Back Grapples------------------------2-------------0 Not much difference at all when it comes to the amount of moves they countered. In fact, they both countered the same amount of moves (15) with RD countering more strikes. However, Smythe countered more back grapples and rebound grapples. My estimation so far, judging from the numbers above, attacking garners more points than defending. Smythe Ranked in at 240, RD Ranked in at 427. It still seems to be a major concern that you probably won't gain as many points from facing Light-Heavies/Cruisers, as they are harder to get a hold of and tend to bruise easier, but I haven't ranked enough matches to confirm just how drastic the difference is. I'm also not sure how to counter balance this situation (if the difference proves to be dramatic) without making it unfair to others. Perhaps I could start deducting points from matches that last longer than 15 minutes, but that's another topic all together and probably further down the road.

If you hit successful attacks, your opponent technically can't gain more points by countering... because your attacks are successful. None the less, I see where you're coming from. This was why I made a thread asking for people's opinions on the point system, which no one really had a problem with at the time. I'm not sure how many people use the technique of simply smashing the counter buttons repeatedly in order to counter, but I would love to see someone try this technique while walking up to their opponents in order to test it's effectiveness. I always saw countering as a game of poker mixed with chess - trying to read your opponent and predict his next move. If it's as easy as smashing buttons repeatedly, then I've been going about it all wrong. Your posts have actually inspired me to investigate the matter, to see just how an "offensive wrestler" stacks up against a "defensive wrestler" so I will break down one of your matches (possibly a previous match) and the match of a 400+ scorer, to see the difference in the amount of offense and defense. This should be interesting and has me feeling like I'm on Mythbusters.

Shattup, Choppy McChopperson. Anyways... the points are based on the difficulty of attacks. It's not so much that certain people attack more than they defend, as wrestlers with an aggressive offense, tend to do well. However if your "offense" simply consists of running attacks/grapples and strikes, you won't garner as many points as someone who grapples more. There's a reason you see more quick grapples, punches and running attacks in a match... because they are easier to hit successfully. The main reason that aggressive grapplers seem to build up the points, is because they tend to be good at reversing grapples as well. This means, even if their grapple is countered, they still have a chance of countering their opponent. The really good players have allot of back and forth reverse fests and the points add up. The only thing I wish was different is how you can punch your way out of grapples now, so the odds of even hitting a strong move has gone down dramatically. Each match probably averages about two successful strong grapples, after the initial grapple.

With the recent induction of Mayhem to the OCWFED Hall of Fame, many speculate that CEO, Jaysin "Feel The" Sensation has finally injected some good 'ol "B Positive" to the bad blood they once shed in OCW. Does this mean we will finaly see that Mayhem DVD released? We haven't been able to confirm that, but we did learn about a secret project that OCWFED is working on, entitled "Death to the Light and PC Mic", which we believe could be the Mayhem DVD we've all been waiting for. Cross your fingers.

At least he didn't go with the Playgirl cover... although it probably would have made everyone chuckle a bit, right before their eyes melted into their skulls... with the exception of Deano, Heaton and Geo.

Oh you don't want me to be in the ranks, son. I'd blow that shit out of the water. It'd be like: Nate Ortiz = 423, MMM = OVER 9,000!

Thank you for the kudos. I'm glad members are enjoying it. The reason I stopped doing the Madness Reports was because of the time it took to write and edit. The down side is that I really enjoyed reviewing matches and giving feedback/commentary, so now I get's to do's my thang again. As for the win bonus, Nate pretty much answered it. At one point I wasn't even going to have bonus win points, but I figured there would be those who manage to obtain a win, even if they weren't ahead on points, so it already acts as a bonus. Also, even though the ranks are based on skill points, it makes sense to give the winners a little something extra. This way, even if someone manages to get 300 points per match, another wrestler who does the same and gains more wins will have the advantage of sticking a little further out in the ranks.

It would have been the first thing they saw on the main page if Pee Stee didn't steal my thunder with his dropping of the punk card. However, I am interested to see how the Hardcore Heavy Hitter does against the Extreme Rolling Jabber. *Roll, Jab, Roll* FTW.

... when Parker Stevens teams up with Dick Tracy and The Shadow to solve another menacing mystery in this week's TALES OF INTEREST!

More grapples and reversals. As you can see, most of the guys like AJ, Stevens and Nate... all who have held titles at one point, have high scores because they know how to successfully connect with certain grapples and they are hard to grapple as well. Solid offense and good defense... they are well rounded individuals. They're not just good at one thing, they are good at all aspects of the game. That's the only way I can put it without giving away specific details of their styles.

1. Editing stats was a pain in the ass for Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 and who knows how TNA will handle their stats. Will OCW ever get rid of the "custom stats" and simply have everyone maxed out on a level playing field? 2. How much does it typically cost to make a custom shirt, because I really wanted my Mad Chibi shirt :( 3. Although OCW V.3 is badass and I don't see a reason to update just yet, have you considered using Flash for V.4? 4. Would you allow Brad Bauer to make an OCW porno? 5. Are you looking forward to the OCW graphic novel that Chino is working on and would you prefer to be a hero or villain? 6. What would your super powers be? And don't say three switchblades that pop out of your knuckles.

Barbarian to be Released: Final letter
Michael Morrison replied to Josiah Cross's topic in Promo Room!
I thought the same, but I didn't want to be the only one. -
Not really sure, as I had to redo them after I adjusted the points. After the first few times, I already had the point system in my head, so I doubt it should take that long now. I download the videos so I can pause if necessary. I'd then adjust my media player settings to keep it on top of other windows, so I don't have to constantly do Alt + Tab. Each match is about 15 minutes, so it probably takes me twice that long to watch it, so 30min. x 6... 3 hours to watch and tally. That's not counting download times of course. I tend to do it in bursts, so 1.5 hours each day. I'm fairly good with numbers and almost got a job with the IRS at one point, but I rather enjoy the company of other people who feel no need to stab me, so eh. Making the ESPN looking graphic was the real pain in the ass, as simple as it looks.

It may suck, but apparently you are very good at it... no pun intended. Check out your ranking [LINK] Mad plug in effect b:Dd

Another bonus that I just realized. Seeing as these will be posted every week, it could also be a way to not only keep track of win/loss records, but also who faced who, when and on what show.

Barbarian to be Released: Final letter
Michael Morrison replied to Josiah Cross's topic in Promo Room!
Just to make it clear... you're not coming back as a butterfly, right? You just used that to symbolize how things are reborn or something along those lines? -
He wouldn't be able to answer that question, as it's not an official OCWFED ranking system. But, seeing as I'm the one piloting the idea, I'll answer it for you. I started watching RIOT tonight and I'm already halfway through the matches. I would have been done sooner, but during the first two matches, I realized I had to make some revisions to the point system and had to go through them once again. All part of the learning process. In short, yes, it will see the light of day and no, you didn't beat Chino on points... but you came close at one point. I'll post the results this weekend and once again ask for opinions/advice/suggestions. Seeing as the winner gets a bonus pack of points, I will be posting pre and post win points, so people can see just how close certain matches were before the pin came into play. I also have different ideas on how to rank. I might have to separate it into Leader By Total Points, Leader By Most Points In One Match and if I can figure out the math, Leader By Average Amount of Points. Some people get booked more than others or pull double duty so this way it can be a bit more fair to the guy who appears once every full moon.

I actually voted for you as cheesiest player. I figured everyone was gonna do it, but I guess someone forgot to send the memo.
-
You're just lucky that Boxing Jesus wasn't on the ballot. The pressure is on for 2008. You better walk on water after turning it into wine and then return from the dead or something.
-
Do you mean it's a famous band or they just have a really long name... with big fonts... and all caps?
-
Finished voting. I have to admit that this was very difficult choose, with so many good options, I sometimes had to use the time tested tradition of iny miny miney mo. Good luck to all.

Wow... got my own section in there. Didn't realize that CCW had such a view on the Mad One. Rest assured, the Method Man will be returning and he will indeed spread a thick layer of madness with his jagged butterknife of insanity. I'm not going to say that it will be the second coming... because I haven't been able to do that since high school *drums*, but I will, in fact, be gunning for the gold. It will be a race between Steven Jones and myself to see who finally dawns the Championship Prize. Game on Mr. Jones... game on.

Maybe Mayhem should get his own radio show now that he can keep himself from saying "fuck" every three words. It was a good listen while cruising through the OCW site. Almost didn't recognize your voice.
