Owen Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Following on from Jake's asking for moments of the night. My favourite video segment was the video of the antagonist/protagonist that is taking BASH to task for stealing money. My favourite RPs were the A-Mart/Paul Boulet RPs as there was a lot of character and relationship development in them. Best match I think was the four way because it was unanticipated chaos from start to finish. While I thought it was well done, the only thing I didn't like was the Hidden Blade/Will Ospreay meta involvement in the Future Idiots/Maxx Storage segment. I thought wrestling/wrestlers from real life didn't exist in the world that is OCW so I don't understand why that was referenced except for an out-of-character/meta pop. 10
Administrators BASH Posted August 5, 2023 Administrators Posted August 5, 2023 Going back through the show I really truly enjoyed the content on last nights show. Jynx really stood out to me and the fatal 4 way as a whole was amazing. Great work by Scotty X, Karmine, Bolek, and Jynx as they had me on the edge of my seat for the entire match. I think every fatal 4 way runs long based on the nature of what we have to work with. That being said I felt like everyone shined in the match at some point, and got all their stuff in. The contrast in styles was evident too as none of these guys are huge with Jynx having a bit of size but have different in ring styles. For me this was the most exciting match on the card. Mass Effect's segments stood out to me as guys working hard and the Claude Hall connection had me laughing when I saw it on the stream. I was confused by the Solomon Caine / Blacksmith stuff at first but thought that ended up being a great segment as well. I had been waiting for Deaver to get one over on Quartz as well so that another moment in the show I personally enjoyed. Everyone is putting in work, this run OCW has been on since the build to Wreslution is has been amazing. 10
Aleksander Bolek Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 I think it was a really cool show, I think the best match was the fatal 4, it was intense and entertaining. The segment of the night for me is the Colin story, I was laughing a lot and I like that he kinda broke the 4th wall I’m curious to see what’s gonna happen with DNS and Bash and who the guy in the videos is. I enjoyed the main event, it was for sure gonna be a good match, I love how Tony looks so dominant in all his matches, he makes the belt feel really important. Good try by Telos, he’s been unstoppable since the beginning of the season and I’m sure he’ll have another chance. 10
Colin Locke Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 The fatal four way was carnage, and just unbelievably fun to watch. Just a great intro into one of my favourite all-round OCW shows in a while, a great time. The DNS stuff is all-round fantastic, and they are just dominating the shows for me, an incredible team. I'm also all in on the Tre/Mac/Marisa story, we've had #FreeTreGolden, and now we have #PremiumTreGolden, the spear on Marisa was a great little moment, and I'm really hyped to see where they go and how their match plays out. I reckon this story will make both guys so much more valuable here, and I'm all for it for both of them. Highlights of the werdz, Jynx is shaping up nicely and showing some solid writing potential, Sheldon has really upped his game recently as a writer, I really enjoyed the Mugen promo, but overall, I reckon my werdz of the night might be the Karmine promo. Just an all-round really solid wrestling promo, got me hyped for the match, was exactly what it needed to be. Can't stress enough though, this show overall was a brilliant time, everyone involved did a great job, and, as always, thanks to Maxx, John, and Jamie for tolerating my insanity when I told them that Will Ospreay was a master fisherman in the OCWVerse a few weeks ago while I was preparing to fly home. 6
El Parca Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Love seeing the tag division starting to fire on some serious cylinders leading into Cide. DNS, Mass Effect, Perfect Storm, Maxx Storage, and Future Idiotz mannnn I don't think we've seen a division as loaded in quite some time. I think Cyber Sammy needs to immediately go get his oil checked or pee in a cup whichever you prefer. The stuff with Kareem & Tony that is involving Pugh is money. Tony is the best, and the many will always be one of the best. We seen it in his title defense and I can only imagine we're gonna see it more and more as it looks like no one is taking that title off of him anytime soon. I'm still not 100% sold on Kingu or w/e you wanna call him. He hasn't resonated with me or given me any reason where I feel like he's some imposing force, I'd like to see him step up in competition and actually not lose. Cause not to be that guy, but you're not undefeated. You lost in the 5 way where you physically got pinned so this "undefeated streak" is not a thing bubba. DNS always being over the shows is something I'll never get enough of them. I don't care if it's BASH, Mad Dawg. Samsin, or ANYONE in there. These guys can string together wins and impose fear whether it's mental, physical, or if homie is just stealing money! The Parker / DNS feud is something I gotta admit I'm still not 100% in love with but that's for my own reasons on where I personally would like Parker to be at. But man, if BASH pulls that upset against Parker? Then DNS will seriously be owed A LOT more respect. I don't understand why we use IRL people in content for OCW. We have always been in the mindset (or where I believed) that we keep a lot of IRL stuff out of OCW. I get subtly nudging to IRL stuff and making these meta curtain pull things but we don't constantly have to do it with stuff that isn't even involved in OCW. When it's meta curtain pull toward stuff in universe I get it, but when we had rookies and others use the WWE titles or any silliness like that they'd usually be told "aye don't do that." But oh whale I suppose. Paul Harris losing his debut in a fucking battle breaks my heart for the member of the Snakepit, but cmon man. Gonzalo is the most handsome man in the entirety of the galaxy! So that right there was rough for Paul off rip but oh well, the rookie has a small speed bump and he'll keep it pushing into his career for OCW. I wasn't super fond of his ent / song but that sort of thing isn't really a big of an ordeal. I love C-Note and what he's doing with his FI so far. Making EVERY champ be on notice is such a nice breath of fresh air. While I don't realistically see C-Note cashing in on Tony or Paul, I definitely like how he's keeping everyone on their toes so that way they don't know WHO he's going to use that briefcase on. 8
Quartz Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 We've got WERDZ! Also a few other opinions that I posted in Discord while the site was down: I was initially a little tentative on the four way because it was way longer than most modern OCW matches, but I was thrilled to see the response and I had a lot of fun on rewatch. Just goes to show you that your direct memory/involvement aren't very important bc you're too close to the action. Aries 2 promos this week ruled. He's a low key great writer. One of the better at utilizing the Morrison Method in an effective way Drago/Emp/Dupree/Spider are continually a highlight for me Tag division is on fire, everyone doing so much to make this shit seem important and I love that None of the teams showcased ont he show this week are "hi we're here and we're a team now" they've all done so much to establish themselves as a team. If I HAD TO find a way to critique the show, I can only really think of two things Now that our roster and more importantly - our roster ofpeople who really #DoTheWork - is expanding and we have the greatest collection of talent we've ever had, it might be time for us to try and slow down and resist making 2-4 RPs per week on a single character. I acknowledge I am one of the heaviest offenders of this (and had 4 segments with Quartz on this show) I acknowledge Summercide is only 3 weeks away and we're in high gear to tell our stories in the meantime. I wish I could have seen some more from certain people, but we had so much already it wasn't noticeable, and sometimes people being gone/roster rotation is the best piece to keep things fresh Considering our production, roster size, effort, and general reach, it's not even a controversial statement in my mind to say current day OCW is the best it's ever been. The Ospreay thing did not bother me lol. Colin's always been wacky and the character himself never really (imo) talked about the actual wrestler or referenced him as such, it was classic colin wackiness. Overdone it would be a little much, but it was exactly that wink and nod to the viewer rather than an in-canon mention, so I'm absolutely not going to compare it to someone coming in saying "I was 3x WWE Champion." Totally get if others feel differently, but it didn't negatively register with me on first viewing, which is usually my own personal bar for what's "too far". 5 President and leading member of the Paul Pugh Fan Club.
