Cody Storm Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 IE Cody's small yet plentiful rp submissions. I would just like to make it abundantly clear, as I just saw this, that these small RP's were not a result of a lack of effort, time, or wish to contribute to the show. They're merely an attempt to be less wordy in my role playing, trying to find a style that doesn't bore you all to death, while still allowing me to say what I want to say. And on other topics, this thread may have seven pages, but it has essentially been seven empty pages. Nothing has really been discussed, so in the style that Suda once tried (and hopefully with a little more success than he saw with it) I'm just going to throw out a question: What was match of the night to everyone? It was a night full of stipulations, and I think it made for some very close matches, with endings that I wasn't as sure about as I normally am. I think mine was a tie between the two main events (coincidence I swear). I think the singles match between Mugen and Dupree was a better match all around, because I really felt like they were fighting for it. Especially after Kent realized Mugen was whipping his ass, you could see he turned the intensity up a notch, and as someone who is in OCW more for the competition than the stories, I thought that was awesome to see. However, the main event was a double whammy in that it was a match for the OCW World title and it had a mystery opponent. The excitement that we could have seen a first time champion crowned was too hard to ignore. In addition, Pugh always talks a HUGE game (something I actually like about him, I thought it was a lot of fun when we were part of the fatal four way feud for the International title last year and he and I just kept giving each other shit for days), and I was really impressed that he walked out of there with the gold because triple threats are intimidating when you are the one with something to lose. So big props to him on that, and to Pato and Sean as I feel you both put on a great match as well. 4

So big props to him on that, and to Pato and Sean as I feel you both put on a great match as well. I didn't get the sense that anyone was damning you for the short RPs, but maybe I just read it wrong. I enjoyed it actually. I think your problem sometimes (because of MUH ENGLISH MAJOR) is that you can drone on in an RP. You basically cutting it up essentially eliminates the problem, you get to tell a longer story with out dragging it along. As we see with guys like Valmont, a long RP ≠ a good RP. Good on you for calling an audible (MUH FOOTBALL MAJOR). As for match-o-the-night, I'd definitely rank Mugen v. Dupree up there. Great back and forth action, a lot of reversals, and plenty of nice spots. I'll be damned if Mugen isn't a main event player after carrying his fair share of this feud and playing this well in the match. Also not to toot my own horn in a match I was in (3!) The hardcore match was everything the division has been missing. I've always considered it an unnecessary title, but a brutal match like that makes me reconsider. ALSO tooting my own horn again (though the credit goes to the other guys in the match), the Bombshell match told a great story, and its cool to see that kind of psychology in a match. 3
Cody Storm Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I didn't think that anyone was either, I just wanted to make it clear none the less. I definitely agree that the Hardcore title match was fantastic and brought an element to the division that feels like it's been missing for a while, but I couldn't give it match of the night myself. Mainly for the reason I think that it was a lot to follow. With four people I often got lost as to what two people were doing as I watched another two duke it out, so that only when it got down to three people was I able to pay full attention. This also wasn't helped by the fact that the video wasn't buffering well for me and I had to watch it in pieces, so take that with a grain of salt. Also while it was a good match, it was a match with three alts that had no story other than the Hardcore title itself. The Bombshells match I would be more inclined to nominate as a match of the night, because I agree it told a fantastic story. I think I picked a damn good time to actually start paying attention to this division xD, I apologize for not appreciating everyone's work in that division earlier. 1
Pugh Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The Hardcore match brought the HC title back to where it was when Kenneth took leave of his senses and put it on Leonheart. Hard hitting, innovative matches with hungry/angry competitors. Thats why I was proud to be a part of it for so long, and thats why I hope it continues in this vein. Battlegate is where we test, the HC division should be where we show what we can do. No.
Bobby Minio Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Having played the WWE games off and on since the N64 days, all through the Smackdown series and all that, that is really one of the things that this current generation does pretty well. The weapons and props do a lot of great shit that makes for awesome visuals. The ability to hit those directional throws onto props and having the animals sell it so hard, it really makes the hardcore matches look awesome, especially when you hit that stride where everything is just working and lining up perfectly. http://ocwfed.tv/recapppv/Awards%202k18/UpdateOTY18.png
