  1. An opinion saying there was no reason for the match based on a not full understanding of the story means it is objectively and factually inaccurate because there was a year's worth of backstory not to mention the two previous shows had events to build to the match. You can't have it both ways. You can't say she watches and reviews everything and then make an argument based on not being familiar with the product. You can have an opinion based on an imperfect understanding of what is going on but it doesn't make you look good. That is objectively inaccurate because it isn't in full possession of the facts.
  2. Emp's original opinion was objectively inaccurate. She might have forgotten them, I get it, but there's been at least a year of build in RPs and video segments with El Parca and CG building to a match between them eventually. To miss the mark suggests either a lack of information or malice. It's fine because she later corrected herself but you can't "watch and discuss everything" and miss one of the key storylines with a character that becomes OCW World Champion. Food for thought.
  3. I want to thank Jay, Jake and everyone involved in putting together Wrestlution. You all brought your A game to make the event stand out against other OCW PPVs and gave it that big event feel. Lots of time goes into editing, commentating, playing, photoshopping, and coming up with new attires to wear and I feel like it really paid off on the show. I want to thank Jordan, Louis, Nick and Max for putting on the Walk through the Fire Finals and the GOAT Academy Showcase in the same week building to Wrestlution. In addition to doing your Wrestlution matches, editing, etc. that's a lot of time on OCW content and I appreciate it. One of my favourite parts of the show was the hype packages, so thanks to Kass, Jordan, Max and Tony for making yours. Like Jake, I feel that hype videos add so much to the experience of watching our shows because we get to tell a condensed story and get people excited for the match that's coming up. My favourite match on night one was CG vs Cort. I thought both handlers did really well in the match and told a really good story. I'm torn on my favourite match for night two because I liked Sanctum vs Cutlass, Maxx vs Archer and Quartz vs Cohle vs Doc vs Tony. Everyone involved in those matches deserves a round of applause. Loved the Nate Mac/Marisa wedding segment and Terra/Sue wedding package; I liked how they were presented differently, I did wonder how they were going to be delivered.
  4. I understand there is a lot of history to reflect on. As I said before when you expect people to read/watch all of the past content you are setting a high barrier to engagement. I don't understand the IC reasoning behind that because you want to make your product accessible to audience members new and old. Especially when all it needed was a sentence or a paragraph at most. The OOC reasoning is more baffling; as a league we want people to take part, to understand what's going on and enjoy it but people think that players who haven't been around as long should go beyond what it takes to be active in order to understand what's going on if it started before they joined. The placement of the Kass/Horse segment for me is a matter of pacing the show. The main event is the main event. The people involved built it towards a crescendo because they thought they were on last. A segment then came along that took all the wind out of the sails when people were ready to leave because they believed they'd seen the main event. It wasn't a surprise return as both Kass and Horse have returned recently so there's no surprise factor. It's hard to critique what the main event segment people could have done differently because the segment that followed it was not objectively superior. I didn't watch it and think "Yeah that definitely should have gone on last." It was a slow segment. Horse had a full entrance for a promo face-off and in the past we've seen people told to cut their entrance when it's for a promo - that should have been the case here. They talked at each other, didn't scrap and didn't really say anything we didn't already know. It would have made more sense as a written RP.
  5. The stipulation keeping them apart doesn't tell me why Rust has to beat Quartz. I understand there is a contingent here that feel like players should go back and read years worth of old content. That is setting a very high bar to participation and engagement. Nice to have if people do but we shouldn't expect it. It's the biggest show of the year and if you're not explaining why you want to beat someone to entice viewers, potential customers to "buy the content", to make the audience see things from your perspective, root for you and get on board, then that is a writing problem. It's a lazy writing problem. You don't have to explain the whole history but give more than "I have to beat you before I leave". Especially when it's surrounded by grandstanding, pot shots at your opponents and a superiority complex.
  6. It's a mid-card feud at best and shouldn't have gone on last. Your mileage may vary.
  7. 3 Written RPs 1. Mama Reese confronts bigot I liked the segment, however, I'm not sure why Mama Reese was the one who stood up for Sue. You're shining up an NPC who can't really benefit from it. Terra standing up for Sue makes more sense in my head. That being said I'll wait to see where it goes from here. 2. Jasmine/Flojo I do not like when the content in the web show includes information that alters the context of what I have watched after I've watched it. FloJo was a babyface prior to this show. The post-match video showed that FloJo had sour grapes towards Terra and Sue and seemed to come out of nowhere. The written RP shows that it came earlier in the night. I would personally prefer that if there is going to be content that changes how content later is going to be received, it should be in video form so that the change can happen on the show and not afterwards. 3. CCW Title Press Conference This probably isn't going to be a popular take. My only real issue with the segment is that Rust comes across to me as a cartoon villain. He is perfect, everything in his world is perfect and everyone else is just living in it. He's impervious to being wound up. He always has to be the guy laying in shots to wind people up. He has the record no one can really argue with which he uses as a shield. There's no vulnerability in him. He positions himself as the guy his three other opponents should want to get out of their Wrestlution match quickest. After disclosing that for him it's about beating Quartz, he doesn't explain why, and I get that might be apparent if you have been around in OCW for a while but let's pretend it's an actual TV show, why would you leave that on the table and not explain to new viewers why Rust wants to beat Quartz so much? Tony gives Rust his flowers but Rust just shits on his opponents. You need to make them look good so that if Rust wins we know how big an accomplishment it is. If you take the piss out of them all the time, who did you beat? 2 Video RPs 1. Harri Etiquette for Women's Champion I enjoyed the comedy in this segment. Job well done. 2. Claudio/Atlas I enjoyed this segment. If I was to nitpick, I wasn't a fan of Claudio not acknowledging that Atlas hadn't fallen for his bit. He'd seen through it. I like the characterisation for Claudio. 1 Match 1. Deaver vs C-Note I felt this was a good, even contest. The latter stages of the match were tense and action-packed. Good job. I won't belabour the other point I was going to address as it's already been referred to in the #show-discussion room and by JCS above.
  8. The scene opens backstage in the catering area. The catering tables are busy with wrestlers and staff assembling plates of food to take back to tables where they can eat by themselves or in groups. OWEN, dressed in his casual clothes, comes into shot standing at the food table assembling a healthy plate of proteins and vegetables. Over his shoulder is Mark Reese with his own plate. Reese: Oh hey big guy. Don’t take all of the good stuff! Can’t be starvin’ the rest of us like a coyote in Alaska. OWEN: You need not worry about that. There’s plenty here, and I’m sure the’ve got more in the back. Reese: Oh that’s surer than a possum liking apples, mom takes this stuff seriously. Hey, can I ask you a question? How do you pronounce your name, is it just Owen or do I need to holler it like a bison? OWEN: Your mom is the cook? Oh yeah, sure. Owen is fine. I’d leave the hollering like a bison to Stacy Clark’s little sister or little brother. Reese: Y’know that’s not a nice thing to say, the Clark’s a lovely family, Owen. Can’t just be standin’ in line calling’ her sibling a beast. OWEN shakes his head gently while chuckling to himself. OWEN: Oh no… I wasn’t calling either of them a bison… I assumed bison hollers are loud? Reese: Oh! Yeah, loud as loud can be. I forget that you guys don’t really have interestin’ animals back in the UK. OWEN: Cow is probably the closest to bison we have. Reese: That’s a shame big guy, anyway, try the southern fried fish, gotta get your strength up for Lution. OWEN: I try to stay away from fried foods nowadays, but thanks for the suggestion. Is there anything else of your mom’s you’d recommend? Something a little healthier? Reese: There’s a grilled chicken salad if y’all are lookin’ to reduce the amount of cushion you’re pushin’ OWEN: Thanks. Just want to make sure I’m keeping myself ticking over with the right stuff… OWEN moves along in the queue and uses provided equipment to add elements of the grilled chicken salad to his plate. Reese: Anyway I gotta get movin’ along to the gym, enjoy lunch big guy! OWEN: If you ever need a gym buddy, I know you’ve had some issues this year with keeping people around you, maybe you could ask your cousin? She does have a wedding coming up soon, doesn’t she? Reese shoots Owen a look, having taken offence. Reese: What did you just say? Actually, Y’know what big guy, I think she’s doin’ just fine in the gym by herself. See you around. Reese turns his back on Owen almost immediately, leaving sharply with his plate. OWEN: Good to hear. See you around. The scene fades to black and onto the next segment.
  9. 3 RPs 1. Colby/Harvey Contract Process Server I liked the idea behind the RPs of both challengers receiving their contracts in private rather than doing a contract signing in the ring. Good characterisation from all involved. Helped advance the story. Wasn't too long. 2. Marisa and Ashley Moore This was short and sweet. Didn't overstay it's welcome. Helped advance the story between the two. Job well done. 3. C-Note/Cort/CG My only bugbear with this RP was CG talking before he was introduced in the Morrison Method. Cort's humour gives me chuckles when I read it. Interested to see where Cort and C-Note go from here. Liked that we got three characters on screen we haven't seen interact before. 2 Videos 1. John Carter vs Sensational Mamaobot 3000 The segment of the night for me. Good video work, excellent humour and some character development for John Carter. 2. Bobbi Baddi vs Amber Ray I was a little confused because I thought the match they had was the rivalry ender. Speaking for me, and I don't know about anyone else, it is hard for me to get invested when the segments are so sporadic. I know this is a quick follow-up after the match but I feel like it lost whatever steam it had going for it and I'm not sure I understand or remember where the beef comes from. 1 Match 1. Tre Golden vs Derek Smith Short Match. Fairly one-sided. Bad night on the sticks for Tre but it helped solidify Derek after his promotion to soundly beat a former champion and World Championship challenger. Liked the finish, and the animation throwback to Derek's previous finish Ram-paige. Good stuff.
  10. RPs - 3 Parker, Marceaux and Reese Trash Spider No Contact Christian Garcia's History Lesson Parker, Marceaux and Reese Similar to what El Brian said. I appreciate the worldbuilding perspective where anyone can interact with anyone but with what happened in the RP the logical progression is that Parker and Reese will fight to settle the score. Parker and TWC are already involved in a story so I'm not sure where this sits comfortably with that in mind. Reese surely isn't going to wait for redress. Trash Spider No Contact Succinct, humorous. Spider claims credit for no contact clause or is JCS claiming credit for Spider's forward-thinking? We will never know. I appreciated that it added a layer to the H20/Quartz story without having either of them involved. Christian Garcia's History Lesson I think this would have hit different if CG vs Rust didn't open the show. Good writing from Jean and Jake. I'm enjoying seeing a different side to CG that isn't complaining or being a lackey. Interested to see where it goes and how CG develops out of the shadow of DDE. Video RPs - 2 John Carter's Emotional Breakdown Sarah Moore's Proclamation John Carter's Emotional Breakdown I think it's obvious that Doc and Nate are building toward a match, however, I liked that there was a throwback to Wrestlution showing that John is on Doc's mind, but also Doc is on John's mind, the mirroring of John and Doc added a lot, implicitly stating John has been trying to occupy Doc's spot as King but that Doc is back to claim revenge for Wrestlution. It also hyped the main event which I liked. Can't get enough of good hype packages. Sarah Moore's Proclamation For me there was way too much text in a short space of time, and the text didn't stand out from the CAW or the background enough to make it easy to read. I appreciate the effort used here but I think this should have been a text RP. Match - 1 Telos vs Nate Mac While I imagine neither player wanted the match to be an underdog story, I enjoyed that Nate took an early advantage and the story was could Telos work his way back into the match and pull off an upset given Nate's strong start. The shenanigans around the ring with Cobra and Tre added to the match rather than detracted. Good job, everyone involved.
  11. RP 1: Thomas Archer/Mad Michael Morrison I like the Thomas Archer/Mad Michael Morrison RP because it was concise, witty and developed their story without requiring the audience to break immersion from the show for too long. VIDEO 1: In Court with Cort In Court with Cort was creative and funny. I'm not normally a fan of the videos where the action is photoshopped pictures but this video and Maxx Edwards Spa Day to me were great examples of how to do it. The video didn't overstay its welcome and helped push along the feuding characters' story without the exposition taking place inside the wrestling ring. RP 2: Parca/CG Segment I liked the character development in this segment, as mentor and student, Parca expressing his displeasure with CG and what he expects of him going forward. VIDEO 2: Valkyrie Confronts Marisa Expensive I wasn't a fan of the opening Marisa Expensive segment. I felt the video title was misleading and clickbaity, and I didn't like that. Half of the video was Marisa's entrance and once she did get in the ring, for my money, she didn't say a whole lot. I view promos as a wrestler enticing me to purchase the product (or match) they are selling and after watching Marisa's promo it didn't make me want to see the match it is building toward. RP 3: Fraser/Just Derek Segment I felt like it should have been placed before Matias vs Owen as it was strange to see Derek and Fraser scrap inside the ring and then talk backstage like it hadn't happened. Good foreshadowing for what might come up in the future. Match: John Carter vs Antonio Everett Carter vs Everett was my favourite match of the night because it allowed me the viewer to just watch and let Jake and Jay tell the story. I struggle watching matches without commentary because it feels like I'm just watching a video game. The commentary helps anchor that a story is being told, it isn't just video game players randomly choosing moves to see what hits, and with the judicious use of cutscenes, etc. this helped convert a match John probably won clean into a clever storytelling device where he looks like a chicken shit heel for using brass knucks.
