The promos from TWC over the last 4-5 months or so have been quite good. From John going from a pretty box-standard written character when he and the other TWC NPCs first debuted to what we get most every week now is huge improvement. It also helps to get actual representation from the other members, and that loud-mouth Jasmin Kaffee is absolutely contributing in a positive way. They still feel like they're all kinda doing their own thing (Marcus with Harris, John with Marisa/Mac) but they remain connected through the written stuff. Hopefully with John's stuff in the rearview and the fact he just called out Sanctum in the Main Event, we'll be elaborating on the 4 members and continuing the upward trend. Fuck John Carter and Marcus McMichaels. Unsure what Aisu sees in any of those bitch ass cowards.

-
Exactly what I'd expect to hear from the person teaming with Joe Deaver.
-
That's okay, I'll always be here to tell you that you're a disgusting charred bag of stomped out shit with no redeeming qualities, because I know you'll keep proving me right week after week.
-
Agree with most of what you're putting down here, but the primary disconnect to me is that Empress framed it in a way that "made no sense" or "had no story" or whatever, when it objectively did. If she had done what you just did about it falling flat or not having the impact, that's a different conversation to me. Opinions are what they are, but I don't love that you can say very factually incorrect things as long as you label it as an "opinion". I don't think there's any harm in providing context to things that you felt were misrepresented... That said, that's another issue entirely that was discussed in Discord, because generally what happens is either the initial critique is incredibly shitty and purposefully dismissive and the other party gets mad - or the critique is a well presented, though negative, opinion of content and the creator of the content gets incredibly shitty and defensive on their own. From there, there's no real conversation to be had because it becomes a childish back and forth and I feel it happens way more when one party already dislikes the other (and we know Emp does not like Brian and vice versa) so the fires are already stoked and both parties are defensive. Ya'll just need to meet conflict with resolution and look to take the legit criticisms as feedback. Even if you believe it to be a personal attack, nobody wins when you drag it out into this nonsense. Find a middle ground. Attack it with reason and even if you can't find it. "Thanks for watching and your feedback." Hard to do since most of us are here for fun to get away from stress in our lives so to have that thrown on you is difficult, and I'm certainly not innocent of being perfectly cordial at all times. I'm a little cunt too. Tequila for thought.
-
Don't worry, nobody thinks you're the voice of reason.
-
Not every criticism is a personal attack. Sure, the 30 second segment didn't overload the show and I thought it was a fun break between the matches, but I can also see how other people don't enjoy the story as much as me and get very tired of backstage attacks. Though I will say the whole "backstage beatdown" meme has been overdone to the point where people think anything with physical contact is a "backstage beatdown". A physical feud like this one happens and it's not like it's been entirely physical confrontations. That said, you HAVE supplied enough context around the things you do for it to make sense, the opinion (from what I can tell) is that it's just oversaturated a bit too much. I also had the entire "video vs text" discussion with Jay and Kent the other day. The medium should not be to blame for lackluster storytelling. You should absolutely look to strike a balance but as long as it's told well, there's no reason to believe a video is inherently worse than text. There are situations where there's no point to do a video depending on the content, but that's a decision made by the storyteller. Overall, there's really no point to be shitty with each other simply because you don't love something or you don't love someone's opinion on something.
-
This response is completely unnecessary and even if you're upset someone disagreed with you, you're only serving to antagonize with backhanded responses like this. You have the right to express your perspective and others have the same right to explain their intentions, even if you felt those intentions missed the mark. EDIT: Jay explained this was on him and nobody actually got angry at the initial comment. Sorry Emp, let's blame Jay together.

It made plenty of sense from my view. El Parca is the one who essentially brought Garcia in for his first major program with DDE. The two were very close throughout the entirety of the DDE build until the angst of a young Garcia caused him to want to go on his own and away from the ego that is Parca. After losing grip not only on his new business partners, (including Dane and Alastair Ross), Parca started to freak out and that led to the "clinging" onto of the belt as he felt it was his gateway to the stardom he had dreamt of when turning on Mark Reese, and his desperation knowing he was target number one whilst being injured only made this desperation worse. After clinging and being very Smegle about the whole thing, he spiraled following the loss and went away with an uncertain future due to many injuries, injuries that were referenced many many times not just at the end, but throughout the entire DDE saga. The return to fight Garcia was sudden (which I felt was a fun surprise, save for how the match ended) but because the two never had proper closure after Garcia left (as Garcia was fighting Ross and Parca was fighting H2O), this made perfect sense. For someone to start to lose their sanity because of the losses they've suffered in their professional and personal life, regaining that composure and seeking revenge on one of the KEY factors in DDE not living up to the stable potential Parca saw in it, makes perfect sense. IE "You cost me something I held dear, now I'm going to do it to you." I'll agree that with more time before Cide, this would have been explained and executed a little more clearly, but to say it made no sense except for a title is flat out blatantly ignoring the previous 6 months of relationship between Dillinger, Ross, Garcia, and Parca. I am still reading, but I always appreciate you staying up to date with OCW and dropping in views from another perspective.

August 27th, 2022 - 5:46pm - Miami, FL We open to the bustling sounds of OCW staff hustling through the halls during Summercide. Just outside of the curtain, men and women with large headsets move quickly around the backstage area. One woman approaches the curtain as it's thrown back by the arm of Terra Daturas, making her way backstage after suffering defeat at the hand of Furiosa. She looks angry and disappointed as she continues through the back. She looks up and sees Heather Angelo standing in front of her with a smile. Terra looks left and right, shocked at the sudden appearance. Heather speaks with a concerned, comforting voice. Heather: Terra? Are you okay? Terra can't find the words to respond, but hears another voice behind her. Sue: Terra! She quickly turns around - perhaps too quickly - as she grabs her head and winces painfully. She slowly opens her eyes and sees her partner and spouse, Sue Plex. Sue: Darlin', you walked right past me, everything okay? Terra turns back around and sees a petite crewwoman. Her eyes dart around the backstage area confused before she turns back to Sue. Terra: Heather? Sue: Heather? Terra: She was here, her. Terra points aggressively to the small crew woman. Crew: I'm Daffney, I don't know a Heather. We really should get you to the trainers room. Sue nods with concern and helps Terra balance herself. She whispers, "was it the kick?" to her wife as she helps her down the hall. Terra again shakes her head and blinks a few times. She walks with the two women but as she places her hand on her head, she stops dead in her tracks. Terra: No, I cannot go in there. Crew: You have to, you don't look good. Terra: I am good. Crew: I dunno, you look like you have a con- Terra pulls away from the crewwoman with an angry look on her face. Terra: No. Stop it. Sue pulls Terra towards her and holds her shoulders to speak to her. Sue: C'mon, please. Terra let them have a look, y’know, like when you need to check the roses for bugs… She just wants to check your head for bugs… That’s all… Terra looks around frantically, she looks at the crewwoman and back to Sue, closes her eyes tight and takes a deep breath. She shakes her head very slowly, looking disheartened. Terra: This cannot happen. I have a match with Furiosa. Both women attempting to assist Terra look at her very concerned. Crew: But.. The match already happened. Terra opens her eyes suddenly and corrects herself. Terra: Yes, of course. That is what I meant. Sue gestures towards the crewwoman, shooing her away as she helps Terra down the hall towards the trainers room...

CCW Championship match will be announced on RIOT 589 The news comes from those close to the CCW champion, Inness Quartz, who recently regained the championship in a chaotic four way match at Wrestlution 16. This coming just after Quartz shocking return at Chaos Theory back in May. Quartz - a 2 time CCW champion - has spent the last 3 weeks scouting the OCW talent (alongside shooing away recruitment efforts from Kasstianity) and by most accounts "has made up his mind" on who to challenge. The champion currently has an undefeated record at the annual OCW Summer themed event, with victories over AWOL, The Uncrowned, Justin Jehst, and Bobby Minio. As the champion approaches his 5th consecutive appearance on the pay-per-view, many have been wondering which OCW wrestler would step up to the challenge. With speculation about whether or not the OCW General Manager Tiberius Dupree would name Quartz' opponent at the upcoming Summercide pay-per-view event, it seems we finally have our answer. With the recent returns of stars like Patolomai, Nate Ortiz, and El Parca, along with the rising stock of the incredibly talented new stars OWEN, John Carter, Christian Garcia, Colby McCallum, and Harris Turner (among others) joining an already loaded main event scene, the OCW roster is looking incredibly strong heading into Miami Florida for Summercide. We will officially find out when the champion makes his way to Madison Square Garden for the 589th edition of OCW RIOT. Friday, August 12th at 7PM ET - On Twitch.tv/OCWFED

3 - Wrex is the last person I'd expect to be a perfectionist given his resume, he goes at Samsin here for the loss, a loss in which he wasn't pinned. Still, this new 'mentor' Ross is very interesting to me. I'm waiting for others to more directly join under his tutelage. Liked the new gear from Samsin! It wasn't "I gotta make the most overly complex tights and attire ever" and that might be why I liked it. That's the Wrex influence. Simplistic while remaining captivating. - C-Note continues to deliver despite going through the normal Rookie learning curves. The intensity and mystique around what/who he is keeps me interested and it's almost as if that mystique alone holds weight in every promo he cuts, video or otherwise. I also appreciated the follow up to show C-Note is not content with what he's gone through thus far, and the fact he's willing to work with FloJo shows he may be turning more directly to devious tactics to make his mark. - Hito-Gui is such a well written character, just from a functional standpoint. I feel like every promo jumps off the screen for me. The direction may not be overly 1-1 feud wise, but this is the level of early-character character building I appreciate. Not a lot of room for speculation as to what Hito is all about. I hope to see him (or Pato) in more focused feuds at the tail end of 2022. Honorable mentions to TWC with Spider, I feel they've come into their groove a lot RP wise this year. Spider's leeching is only going to make it better. Also to Jasmin's interesting stuff with the Pine Dojo, giving us a modern look into such a deeply rooted OCW foundation. Also :eyeballs: to Sanctum and... the Believers!? as well as Owen and DOC's late show, simple and effective segments. 2 - Mark Reese getting thrown about... This one fucked me up, as was mentioned in the VC. This has gotta be the first time Mark has been little boy'd in his career. He's been attacked from behind before but never have two men just completely manhandled him for minutes at a time without so much as a slight response. Everyone has their moments, and I am not going to criticize "OH HUR DUR WRESTLING HE LOOKS SO WEAK REESE IS DEAD", it just super took me by surprise. That said, sometimes it takes drastic measures for underdogs to be taken seriously and that worked in spades, because after this, I no longer think their match at Cide is going to be a foregone conclusion. - Maxx visits Kasstian Church. HOLY FUCK WHY DOESNT KASSTIANITY STAY DEAD!!! I feel like they've been slain 3 times now and they keep coming back. Now this kidnapping of Maxx Edwards in his fancy 3D church rendering, I loved all of this. The dialogue felt natural and watching Harvey slip further into delusional "but I'm the best" madness makes me happy. Great segment. 1 - Has to be Evelyn vs Alyssa. That match went so hard for no reason. That's what all OCW matches, especially on TV, should aspire to be! Great work from both of ya. I also have to mention Tony vs Harris, did NOT disappoint as a main event and Tony taking advantage of the ME spot by doing a great post-match segment. Nate vs Tony? Yes please. Summercide approaches, brothers, sisters, and everyone in between! I really enjoyed this show from both a video and written standpoint. Nothing felt like a waste of time and everything held serious weight on the lead up to the PPV. That's wrestling and shows like this remind me why it's the greatest thing on the planet. "Wrestling is better than the things you like." See you all for RIOT!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MARK REESE IS AN UPSTANDING CITIZEN WITH A CLEAN RECORD AND ONE MINOR ISSUE GETS A SUSPENTION. SHOCKING WE SEE MORE BAD JUDGEMENT AND OUTSTANDING TYRANNY FROM MR FRAUDSATION I STAND WITH MARK REESE (but mostly I stand against jcs)
-
You are not wrong about making things accessible to the audience new and old. I feel like we've done that here and there, but not every single segment needs a lore dump or needs to be over explained, in my opinion. If you're keying in on Rusts' one comment, one that - to rusts point - is probably the largest major plot point that does not need overexplaining. The general sentiment is right, but there's a balance you need to strike between appealing to the new viewer and respecting the history/long term viewer by not dropping 4 years worth of exposition on their head in every segment. -- I don't understand the outrage about Kass/Blacksmith, a feud that's been brewing since Blacksmith was a wee lad and has "attraction" all over it. It was fun and I was angry that I didn't realize there was a final segment. It was fun, who cares lol -- RE Your comments about the Terra/Sue segment, I think the nature of watching every single pro wrestling segment with the goggles of "who is elevating/who is benefiting" is a shrewd smart fan way to view things and can distort the enjoyment sometimes. The premise was to introduce a minor side-conflict on the overarching story of wedding planning and the surprise of the equally southern, older woman being supportive and progressive was the point. The entire point of the entire series of RPs is to drive forward Terra/Sue's relationship. Minor/side characters don't always have to benefit or get pushed. That might just come down to differing mindsets when watching, so there's not a lot I can do to counter that concern. Appreciate all your feedback as always!

Random poorly formatted and scattered go home thoughts - Continuity to open the show with Simson and Cort! Little background showing who Simson is, excited to see that expanded on a little bit. - Love seeing the new faces get involved with RP work. Neir Yorha is weird, but interesting weird. Stand out, that's what the look does. Just a tip - you do not need quotation marks in your RPs, that's what makes the Morrison Method so great on it's own. Save your quotation marks for emphasis within the RP itself. man the fucking GOAT academy is one of my fave things going right now, the banbter between the two legends is so good and it lets you enjoy it even without knowing who Lee and Aries are. In fact, I'd argue it's better if you didn't. Catalyst for development for all kinds of characters. Such a collection of personalities here and I love how grand and macro the scale is for this. Fucking Jordan Trance was a star in this video. Love the touch of the old radio music, reminds me of an old boxing game. Just expertly done all around! Given the incredibly interesting look, I was a bit surprised by the vanilla or hasty entrance from Neir Yorha. Although, it does scream rookie. Give that entrance some life, kid. Maybe cut your theme to just a chorus or w/e. Colby continues to prove why he's a clear cut megastar in the biz just like his papi. Colby's rise to stardom has been done so perfectly and he's already a main event talent. Showing new characters how shit is done. Not sure I love the hood and jacket staying on during the match for Yorha, but he did a fine enough job staying a little competitive for sure. I didn't notice any huge FPR stuff either. Solid match. - Bonjour idiots pops me every time! I continue to appreciate the specific language and pace used in Rust promos. It's not about perfect english or grammar, it's about personality. You can FEEL the french accent and dialect through text. Blacksmith does this well too. As for the promo, sets up the match for CT. Both are at the top of their games career wise and I can't wait to see this one since I'm not on commentary this year. I get to experience it live with all of you!!! The day marisa steals the world title and has a huge reign, hoo wee. Idk what the playground is, but just such a prime example of how to continue to stay relevant and fun in OCW - keep evolving and doing new things. Marisa hasn't missed a beat since summer 2020. - Tremblay is the expected member of Sanctum to have insecurities, so this makes sense, as the youngest and the prodigy I like to see the fire here and we'll see ifi t's expanded on after what happens in the match, seeing as how he's the first out. Not a ton to say about the FFW, Tristen remains handsome and has so much top-tier potential as OCW's resident underdog/handsome kicky boy. I need more personality/character elements but the presentation so far has been great. Danielson's theme needs a new mix or a new tune immediately. Flat entrance. Match was chaos as you'd expect from a FFW, the spot with Samson and Cort in the ring at the end was fun, given their history, then the rookies break that shit up and split. I love both rookies movesets, they feel like they make a lot of sense. Nice touch having OWEN watch from the back. So much of pro wresting is presence so keep getting yourself front facing. Huge win from Danielson, albeit because of a narrowly missed kick from Cort. Let's see you follow up on that! - Pirate Math Awesome storytelling for Luis and Atlas. With all the moving pieces continuing to show their presence, glad to see Atlas fight through the early shakiness with FPR and what not and stay visible, he's still one of my faves presentation wise. Both McMichaels and Claudio get their PRESENCE out there without outright interrupting the match. No surprise to see the competitiveness in this one. Fun match, fun back and forth, and a big win for Bishop. (fuck that theme) - BRI ISH RULES FOR SANCTUM. I have no idea how they plan on executing that, but I have faith in the two involved. I'd maybe go with a variation of "Ring General" or something else, because the WALTER comparisons are already laid on so thick, maybe a diff nickname would be better. Cant wait for the match, though. - Danny has been so all over the place during his time in OCW, but I feel his best run was as a heel. That said, it's very fortunate he has such a powerful babyface in Harris Turner to help transition him to that good-guy role. And moving that way is the right move with Parca being such a dirty shitbag of a character. Trying to outshit that heel would not have worked as well. The watermark's on the garage doors on Colin's videos are always hilarious to me. The shift from funny to serious and mentally anguishing is jarring, but works for me because Colin commits to it. I'm still in suspense of where Colin goes after this. He's got so many directions based on the self reflection the torment has caused.. CUTLASS LADS ON TOP! ADVANTAGE IN THE CHAMBER, BABY! - The "code" continues to show it's head with the petals. I am pretty sure I know who it is, but do you? MUCH MYSTERY BAY BAY! - Holy cowboy shit, Cort has had ENOUGH! Physicality introduced before the final showdown. I like Danny's new jacket and entrance! This is a prove-it moment for Danny, when the new era is finding itself, THIS version of Danny could become the star he thinks he is. (No match for DDE tho). Love a little tag wrasslin and surprised to see Danny take such a beatdown, though it again helps him towards garnering at least a little sympy. Actually I like his tights too. The matching looks from DDE are great too, but Danny's new look is very cool. Oh god, once Harris gets in this shit gets hot with DDE taking a huge beating. They CAN co-exist apparently. Love the shots from Danny to Parca on the Apron, nice touch. leads perfectly to ahuge act of violence out of fucking nowhere and THAT legitimizes the fuck out of Danny as the "Parca stopper" he's been built as for the last 2 years. Nice touch on the finish from Turner attacking Parca. GREAT match imo. - Tony knows that the NA title was just hucked intot he river, he's worried about Rust's history with throwing shit into the hudson too. Tony's line at the end just goes to show you that glory and championships will always drive friends apart, especially that shit bag Rust Cohle, who's done this twice now. - "You listen to me and you listen to me!" is a typo, but it's somehow hilariously something John would say in Discord and it popped me. I appreciate the backstory here between Alyssa and John to explain the situation after the Elliot Parker fuckery. John and Parker on a collision course? Built right, not a match I would hate to see. John's backhanded remark about being professionals feels right too. The Garcia ent has changed a lot but so has he, hopefully this version stays pat because it feels solid enough to the wild nature of what CG is right now. These two really went to war here. Definitely a battle I was interested in seeing after all that happened the last two weeks. There was a section there in the middle where the two kept revving and dodging over and over that was actually sick. Dodging is really great given you're not overdoing it or doing it every single defensive chance you get. Very competitive match and it should have been IC and out. HUGE win for Derek ahead of the INT title match and I don't think anything was lost after that super close finish for CG. Great job all around! - What in the absolute fuck is this duality of Elliot Parker promo. This has gone in a direction I could have never expected. Some old school lucha underground shit that I am absolutely here for. So basically, Parker's reborn prophet and the original angel that survived split into two after the accident that killed him they find each other and go SEND THE TRUCKER RESPONSIBLE TO ETERNAL HELLFIRE AND BRIMSTONE. and trust me, this is all canon, this isn't some dream sequence or "inside the mind" shit that I pull for creative influence, John Carter actively referenced that there are two of them in a separate promo. This is all there for everyone to see. This is insane in all the best ways. The connect back to the very story that everyone tried to laugh at and re-evaluate his place in the universe leaves him so many options as far as a return/long term character goes. Give me more spooky over the top nonsense. I'm here for it. THEY KILLED A GUY. This chaos blinking promo has aired I think every week since after we started and I'm not sure where it's going. I have a leading theory right now, based on this recent video which include grainy cuts from Rust Cohle, Papa Kass (specifically Papa, as he mentioned in #Show-Discussion), Bald H2O (I think), Jehst, Alastair Ross, Mark Reese, El Parca, and one I can't really make out towards the beginning. The dates behind the cuts and in the prev videos seem to point to a reveal at Chaos Theory, so I guess we'll find out there. (I swear to god if it's a Jehst heel turn I'm going to lose my mind) - Show RPS wrap with a huge clash with 4 major players in Rust, Tony, Doc, and Harvey. Interesting mind games played by Cohle here, but smart. Harkens back to his days as the OG coward knife pervert. Self-sustain as he leaves without suffering the wrath of two of his oldest rivals. The tension between Tony and Doc is inescapable at the end, and even Harvey gets a glimpse at the title as he's made his way back into the fold. Shit is getting wild ahead of CT. I obvs watched the ME and man what a super fun match. The cohesion and tag team stuff was really great and I'm glad our first mixed tag in a decade was as great as it was, especially because of the build. This is why you build for TV just as much as you do PPV, gents. Thanks for giving us such a banger to head to CT in style. See you all Saturday, sorry I couldn't commentate the show proper, but it means I get to watch it live with the rest of you. As for those who might be disappointed I'm not calling a show for the first time in 4 years, talk to Jay, it's not my fault. /shrug.

As originally reported in various outlets in the media and confirmed this morning by OCW sources who have been in close contact with Jaysin Clinton Sensation, we have learned that there will be a change at the desk for OCWFed's first major pay-per-view event in what they've dubbed the "new era". Most sources have confirmed that for the first time since December of 2018, current commentator Jake Allen will not be appearing on the Chaos Theory show in any capacity on commentary. After rumors originally started to circulate early last weekend, WhereCulture began to investigate before hearing several different stories around the cause of the expected change, before it was confirmed early this evening. One source claims to be uncertain about the reason, but speculates it has something to do with Allen's recent contract negotiations, though the status of the lead commentator's contract is unknown to most pro wrestling outlets. Others have pressed forward rumors of everything ranging from illness to discontent with his role in the company to Allen being unhappy with the final card of the show. At this time, everything is speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt. Fortunately for those who plan on watching the 10-match, gimmick-heavy spectacle, most expect Ambition regular and fan-favorite Nick Pepperoni to fill in for the huge PPV event alongside Mr. Sensation. One thing is for sure, it will be a fun show with huge matches all night!

I put all this in Discord when I read the werds earlier today, so I guess I'll archive it here too. in show discussion news, Cort's show opening promo is a masterclass on weaving current stories with tidbids of a character's past without overdoing it also his stupid non-sequiturs and one liners are always fun also how the fuck did Chance Williams get an invite to the GOAT academy before me I wanted to be berated by #Austin Lee GARCIA GOT ONE TOO Jokes aside, I kind of appreciate how Jasmine Kaffee is just Garcia's internal insecurities manifested into human form CG: IM A ROUGH AND TOUGH SOB GIMME THAT TITLE Jas: scared kid trying to prove he belongs CG: punches someone in the back of the head NUH UH that flojo promo is a strength, no need to try and get artsy fartsy or overly wordy, play to strengths. The sudden shifts in personality could be reeled in just a tad, I feel she's ver different from week to week depending on the situation but this one is the highest ceiling for a Face flojo, imo, rather than the Steve Austin thing Danny seems to be relying a bit too heavily on the fact Parca is a bitch coward to be cheered. Maybe it's not even his intention and he doesn't care, which is also fine, but if he is trying to "turn a new leaf" acknowledgement of past transgressions and speaking, even if just a little bit, to the nature of his past decision making would go along way and the very next promo, I think Derek does a better job of that, even if not directly speaking to his past, talking about how people have perceived him in the company up to this point and his tonal shift are exactly what someone needs to view him as a face Per El Brian: i really really want TWC (john specifically) to find his voice he carries himself in the discord, and in VP as this confident person but in his promos he sounds like an automated robot "we're gonna do it!" "no matter who wins... TWC wins!" nah bro i want you to show me why you were such a confident, arrogant, rookie champ you took out DOC at Lution and caused Quartz to wanna murder you and your goons you're strongly disliked why isn't John acknowledging this and trying to piss even more people off My response: This is exactly what I was trying to verbalize but couldn't when I read the last two shows of promos It's not that you can't be a varied and dynamic personality, it's just that one segment seems to fly in the face of another, without directly acknowledging why that personality shift happens I will say about CG, he does this sudden shift better because for Marcus, it seems like he has a window where he could be "putting on a show" for certain people or masking insecurities but I'm not clear that's what is happening, just feels more directionless at least when CG goes out of pocket, it's usually later reconciled with the fact he's got a lot of conflicts and barriers up and is trying to move away from that so yes the Marcus feedback is on point also agree about John His strongest RP work has been with Marisa everything else seems too boilerplate and doesn't vibe with how John acts in DC There was more good discussion, but there ya go

Not bad! Definitely a good read to kick off the season. Some short notes from me. I know many of you were stomping your feet at the new game because you've become so impossibly ingrained in the style of 2K19, but I really enjoy the fast pace and reset-less game we have right now. There are absolutely kinks to work out from an ethics/pacing standpoint, but overall I think it's fun, it's fresh, and it's enjoyable to watch when done right. MATCHES: Really enjoyed playing the triple threat. I was starstruck by Atlas when I first saw him. Asher, please don't mess this up, you've got something great on your hands. Please give OCW what they deserve with this guy. Alexa's entrance rules, I think it's a slight departure from the spooky Kasstianity thing, but as far as blending entrances and music cues go, (not to mention the DOPE arena customization) this is perfect. The match with Amber Ray was really good, showed Amber's capabilities for the first real time and the impending match with Bobbi Baddi is hopefully going to do that even more. Colin's match was mostly about his thing with Trance which popped me huge, not sure about Chris Verde because there was not even any explanation or anything, so we'll see on that. No judgement just yet. Danielson/OWEN was class. I still think OWEN should have gone for the win given the opportunity. There's nothing unrealistic or non-wrestling about hitting a sig directly into a fin. Go for it when you get that big stun! Tre/Elliott had quality problems, professionalism problems, and FPR problems. We're better than that in OCW. Please do better. (Mostly you, Elliott.) Ashley/Marisa was great until the botched/fucked FPR ending. That's not going to be acceptable once we get into the flow of things. Main event was super fun and I think it bodes well for our tag matches. Would have liked to see more tag moves, but overall I enjoyed it. We have hiccups over the game and FPR but I guarantee just like we have every game, we'll find a way to refine and perfect it. Keep up the good work. For RPS: - Tony is still very engaging as always, loved Doc's lowkey inclusion in this one. Rust turning his back on Tony was unexpected, but also so good at the same time. - OWEN and Cort's back and forth is great because I could watch those two characters fight forever. Time for me to come up with FPR for 2/3 falls. - John's promo with Marisa wasn't great grammatically, as it suffered from some hard-to-read run on sentences and some awkwardness, but it was really fast paced, even though it was long. It's hard to explain. I was seeing it in my head, which I guess is the goal. Glad this is still going. Marisa does a great job making stories that can't payoff in-ring compelling. - Colin/Trance's shit was so funny on screen - Aries with 2 incredible videos. Both the UAE video and Aries himself doing the new dojo. Excited to see where that goes and am awaiting (Viktor)'s message for an invite. - TIBBY AMBITION TOURNAMENT?!?!?! That's awesome. Give it to me! - Flojo represented here, the setting was a little weird, but keeping up the general underdog after the big title win is never easy to do, glad to see FloJo not losing pace or immediately bolting for a change in character. -- this isn't a full review so if I didn't comment on something I'm sorry. Fun and easy read all around. Thanks everyone. Glad OCW is back.

WORDS (only reviewing RPs as we get plenty of eyes on the videos, aside from my own obviously.) - H2O starts the show in catering where he belongs. He hints at a rematch with DOC, as they had a solid feud a few years ago leading into their team-up last year. Tony is more interested in a champ vs champ match, which booking is DEFINITELY making happen in 2K22! Still, knowing what I know later in the show, I'm curious where Doc and H2O go from here, because a THREE WAY DANCE would make my pants wet. - Hyper Mantis Red edgelords away in his apartment, name dropping several people he's had run ins with recently. Taking a liking to the pacing and dialogue in Mantis promos, but it appears we're headed on a collision course between Mantis and TLB, the one we didn't get after he killed him. Have to see if TLB is as interested, though. - Sanctum continuing their upward momentum in a backstage promo. Sheldon's words seemed to hit a tad harder for me in this one, directed most pointedly at their upcoming opponents in The Wrestling Club. Fraser provides the veteran lore dump which is necessary here and it doesn't go too long. I think Fraser's lines could do with some grammar/pacing checks here or there. It reads a tad clunky as is and making the reader double back to see "what did he say" can take them out of it a little bit. Nothing major, but something to consider. - THE WHO IS A NICE GUY, A CALM GUY, AND HE'S FRIENDS WITH DRAGO CESAR SO YOU SHOULD LIKE HIM MORE. - Interesting. Stalker Harvey follows up on his convo with dominion m8 Tony Everrett by coming to their room. More antagonistic behavior, but much more aggressive than earlier. Harvey has tons of history with Nate and Rust, so it's no surprise they are not fans of each other. I like this arc so far, with Harvey scouting the backstage area for new opportunities without leaving any of his own past on the table. - P3! You know the drill! Go read it and have a laugh! - Ashley and Harri's escapades continue pre-match, with Harri seemingly more interested in entertaining the fans and being front and center than winning a match. Ashley being number one bitch in modern day OCW, I'm sure she's eventually going to have an issue with that, but we will see. ETIQUETTE, ETIQUETTE! - OWEN with a GREAT promo tonight, directed at Cort Marshall. Owen appears to keep landing himself in situations where folks don't want help against a common evil. I especially love the directedness here and OWEN's use of the Morrison Method to set the scene and use body language in text form. I was in there on this one. Good stuff. - Back to back excellent writing here with Colin's Stacy Clark segment. In addition to his great use of Morrison Method setting the scene and making you feel like you're watching a real segment, he turns his "haha I'm funny look I'm meta" schtick into a more serious light, showing that he wants to drive and move forward with more than gimmicks or scoops. Love it. - Stacy is busy tonight, finding Chris Baxter, new HOFer. Accomplishes a lot in short time. I think this one works for pacing, as it reads a lot like a speech instead of a written document. The grammar and such could be a little better but I'm nitpicking. I wasn't re-reading anything. It covers the run in with Mantis, more world building, which I love, and acknowledges the HOF induction. These promos covering more than just "I exist" are essential to have a presence. - YES! MAXXED OUT! Holy cow, another great example of using the "narration" or bolded parts to set the scene and tell a story. Maxx covers a lot of ground with this one and even puts over other folks in OCW, something not often seen outside of feuds within a bubble. The mishap at the end with Mark Reese's theme playing helps add to the Maxx aesthetic and the fact Mark was there behind him the same way Justin Tucker was last year... That is very interesting for the future, especially with Mark being embroiled with TWC/Elliott Parker/other things right now. - Marcus McMichals returns with mostly a "presence" promo. Nothing hugely established as of now in terms of future intentions, but we get to see more about Marcus and who he is/what drives him. His line about Harvey taking days off could be interpreted as making excuses, OR importantly, it could be a way to show how his pops and others around him have influenced him in potentially negative ways, causing him to go down the path opposite Harris Turner, who at this point have to be connected at the hip for their future in OCW bc of the S-Cup. I did read it that way, seeing this as a thing where Marcus is a bit of a guy who has had the weight of the world on his shoulders and is just trying to meet expectations. This is a level of nuance that allows characters to evolve and I'm all for it. - Dominion is all over this show, which is a good thing. Doc follows up on his loss to Nate by disgusting means, alongside Tony who continues his great promo work from Season 16. The story has clearly shifted once again in Dominion, to "where is Nate's head at??". This happened with Danny and Rust last year before reconciling and now with DOC back, it seems Tony is conflicted. I will say, one thing that really leans itself to this story is the ABSENCE of Nate. Normally I'd say everyone should be around, but I think Nate being this overwhelming force looming over these storylines (both Harvey earlier and this one here) is ominous and helps his presence as this larger than life force these guys Doc and Antonio are trying to decipher. That said, a face-to-face showdown next week on Turmoil??? LETS GO! That's how you sell a show. - Short and sweet promo from Christian Garcia, really leaning into his own beliefs and by very nature, being able to shift to a more sympathetic figure. References to the history between he and Ross is great, because it's something that I felt people don't pay enough respect to. Keep doing that, even as brief as it was. This also helps CG's motives as we have seen several backstage and in-ring PHYSICAL confrontations between the two (and will again in the ME). If these are overdone without explanation over and over again, it can get really tired and overdone. These promos giving some context as to why this physicality is present help lessen that a bit, so I appreciate this. - hehe, harri got the bucket on her head. TerraMiSue on top. - Cort responding to OWEN, leaning into a bit of a character shift from his Hollywood USA days since Jehst is gone, now. This reads to me as a bit of a more serious, "prove it" Cort Marshall. One that not only recognizes the doubts being levied against him, but also one that acknowledges them openly, which helps new viewers understand what kind of character he is. While still leaning very much face alongside OWEN, both men are put in situations where you can understand their respectful problems with one another. Match coming up on Ambition, which should help tell us where this goes from here. 3 more shows for OCW for 2K19. Let's get some love for the storytelling and effot put in week and and week out. I can't write reviews like this every week but the RPs are just as important as anything else and (as I mentioned in this post) are so pivotal in helping to flesh out stories that make these matches mean so much to us. Make sure you read the words (it's reall ynot that much) every week and drop a few lines in here if you can. It makes Jay smile and it's worth it for no other reason than that, honestly.
